From January 2024, Design Team consultants engaged to design and oversee the construction of Irish public works contracts with a value in excess of €100m had Building Information Modelling (BIM) requirements included in their scope of service. From 2025, the same requirements now apply to Contractors and Supply Chain, and the threshold for Design Team has decreased to €20m.
BIM is defined by ISO 19650 series as “use of a shared digital representation of a built asset to facilitate design, construction and operation processes to form a reliable basis for decisions”. In other words, it’s multiple processes of creating, managing and maintaining information/data on a building project throughout its whole asset lifecycle.
The key fundamental step in successful Building Information Modelling processes is the appointment of an Information Manager. The Information Manager will develop and manage the BIM Strategy, supporting the Appointing Party and Lead Appointed Parties throughout the whole lifecycle of the asset, from Planning and Design, throughout Construction and thereafter, Operations.
Fexillon experts in Information Management created an overview paper on how we help public sector clients implement BIM processes in accordance with the Capital Works Management Framework (CWMF) mandate, READ IT HERE.
